LUNCH WITH...FATIH ALASALVAROGLU

I like things dirty and authentic

PRINZ BERLIN ARTIKEL

FFatih Alasalvaroglu loves street art, and would like to finally give it the attention it deserves. He explains to PRINZ how nice it should look, and why he doesn't want to succeed Christian Audigier.

He makes it clear from the beginning that this isn't about food: “I'm actually not hungry”. Fatih Alasalvaroglu orders lentil curry anyway. His tee is already brewing. Let's discuss his newest project then: Urberlin.com – a street art label and agency. “I find graffiti to be a creative and contemporary art-form: galleries of the street. That's what I want to conserve and support with my work

To date he's already won over 4 spray painters from Berlin, whose images he admirers and now legally distributes using their pseudonyms. It starts with 500 shirts – all ecological and produced in Prenzlauer Berg. The artists get 11 percent of the proceeds, and another 10 percent go to benefit social projects in the capital city. Fatih hopes that “some of the money will go back to the streets”, and emphasizes that “this is not a commercial T-shirt idea à la Ed Hardy.” It begins as fashion; their art will soon be printed onto baseball caps, athletic clothing and shopping bags. For the long-term the 34-year old has something much bigger in store. Creativity, after all, has no boundaries. “Printed canvases, for example, or high fashion would be amazing. Exclusive images printed on all sorts of materials.” That and always original...just like urberlin.

CONFUSED ART

Shirts from the streets – UR Berlin

PRINZ BERLIN ARTIKEL

Street art clothing made by UR Berlin. Fatih Alasalvaroglu transforms art from walls to shirts and finds it unbelievably cool ;). His label provides street artists an opportunity to broaden their work, and also to earn some money. However, it is less about making money; in addition to cool clothing, UR Berlin stands for the lifestyle of our city. What would Berlin be without streets decorated with art!? Clearly a sad pile of shit! BFC likes it, so check out UR Berlin homeboyz!!!

THE FEELING OF BERLIN ON YOUR CHEST

Young designer prints graffiti on T-shirts.

Berlin – The TV star Lara-Isabelle Rentinck (24) was not only on screen in “Verliebt in Berlin”. She is now wearing the street on her skin. The designer Fatih Alasalvaroglu (34) has printed the coolest graffiti images from the city street onto T-shirts.

For Rentinck and her fellow actors Tobias Schenke (29) and Roy Peter Link (28), URBERLIN – the feeling of Berlin on your chest - is the latest trend, even if the shirts are still relatively unknown.

The concept is just as underground as the fashion itself: The shirts are still not available in stores – only online. “I want for it to slowly run rampant line a virus”, explains Fatih Alasalvaroglu, the young designer from Schöneberg. He has worked for the last year on his collection.

He also wanted to “conserve art”, he says, and inserts regretfully, “motifs are unfortunately being removed from building facades more frequently today”. www.urberlin.com

Stadtkind & ARTIBERLIN 03.11.2010

URBERLIN

URBERLIN will von zukünftigen Erlösen pro verkauftem Artikel soziale Projekte in Berlin unterstützen.
